On May, 27 students of the Bohomolets National Medical University achieved excellent results at the international student anatomy olympiad “The Great Gatsby Games: Anatomy in the Golden Age.” The intellectual competition took place at the Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology of Rīga Stradiņš University (Latvia). Fifteen teams from Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine participated in the event, with Ukraine represented by two teams from NMU.
Over the course of two intensive and engaging days, participants demonstrated a high level of theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning, teamwork, and creative approaches to the study of human anatomy. The olympiad program featured a variety of original competition stages inspired by the atmosphere of the “Golden Age” and the world of The Great Gatsby.
Students tested their knowledge in topographical, clinical, and radiological anatomy, as well as histology, osteology, and myology. The competition included tactile identification of anatomical structures, anatomical riddles, work with natural morphological specimens and radiological images, interactive quizzes, and team-based anatomical quests.
A special atmosphere was created by themed competition stages such as “The Beating Heart of Gatsby,” “Silent Cinema: Anatomy in Motion,” “The Surgeon’s Private Screening,” “The Curator’s Cabinet of Creatures,” and “Expression of Power: The Muscle Masquerade,” which combined science, art, and team spirit.
Participation in the international olympiad became not only an opportunity for NMU students to demonstrate their knowledge, but also an important experience in international academic cooperation, professional development, and intercultural communication.
According to the results of the competition, NMU students placed 5th and 6th overall.
The team that earned 5th place included first-year students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Dentistry Taras Nester and Sofia Hraur, as well as second-year students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Medicine Arsen Amalyan, Volodymyr Rodichkin, and team captain Anastasiia Yefymenko.
The team that secured 6th place consisted of first-year students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Dentistry Yelyzaveta Zaburanna and Anastasiia Kyrylova, together with students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Medicine Amina Kenzhaliieva and Marharyta Khmelieva, led by Nina Sheremetova.
The participants are students of the Department of Descriptive and Clinical Anatomy of NMU under the guidance of Professor Iryna Dzevulska, Associate Professor Alla Synytska, and Assistant Andrii Yanchyshyn.
We sincerely congratulate our students and their mentors, and wish them new academic achievements, remarkable victories, and continued success on the international stage!
